What is RYLA?

The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is a leadership training program for youth which emphasizes citizenship, leadership and personal growth. This demonstrate Rotary’s respect and concern for youth, encourage leadership of youth by youth and give young adult an opportunity to listen and exchange ideas with other outstanding business, community and student leaders and establish a sense of social responsibilities.

Aim of RYLA

The overall aim is to help our young adults to recognize, develop and achieve their best potentials so as to make a difference in their own lives along with leveraging this understanding to create long-lasting positive changes in their communities and the world.

RYLA 2015-2016 Focuses on

  • Gain a deeper understanding and connection to inner self
  • Foster leadership capabilities to be effective leaders
  • Strengthen self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Enhance teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Build network with fellow young adults and community leaders from different backgrounds and cultures
  • Make a constructive lifetime difference for a brighter future


  • Age between 18 and 25 during the RYLA program
  • Quota: Approx. 80
  • Fluent in written and spoken Chinese and English

Application Process

  • Registration period: 23 September 2015 to 16 October 2015. Please visit the link below for online registration. Application Link:

  • Notification: Successful applicants will be notified on 3 November 2015.
  • Registration Fee: Successful applicants are required to pay a registration fee of $600 before 10 November 2015. This amount will be fully refunded to the applicant during closing ceremony after he/she had completed all stages of the program.

Program Outline

  • Kick-off Conference: 28 Nov 2015
    Kick-off Ceremony, briefing session and experience sharing from honorary guest and past RYLArians.

  • Mainland China Field Trip: 4 Dec 2015
    Participants will have a chance to visit leading corporations in Qianhai and Shenzhen to understand the development of new technologies and application of corporate social responsibilities.

  • Workshops: 30 Jan 2016
    Participants will join two workshops to learn how to communicate, build confidence, and put trust in others to overcome hurdles in life.

  • Leadership Training Camp: 25-27 Mar 2016
    A 3 days / 2 nights camp with action-based activities designed by professional trainers. Participants can share their achievements from the workshops and community services.

  • Closing Ceremony: 21 May 2016
    RYLArians of RYLA 2015-2016 will be announced during the ceremony. It is also a great chance for reunion and certificates will be presented to participants who had completed all stages of the program.

  • Previous participants will not be considered.
  • Applicants should inform the Organizing Committee of any change of particulars in the application as soon as possible.
  • The decisions of the Organizing Committee regarding the selection of applicants are final. No provisions for objection will be open to the applicants.
  • Rotary International District 3450 (Hong Kong, Macao, Mongolia & The People’s Republic of China - Guangdong Province) will solely sponsor costs and expenses of RYLA.
